  • Earth Day 2026: April 22, 2026

    Wetland Project

Since its inauguration on Vancouver Co-op Radio in 2017, listening to the 24‑hour soundscape from the ṮEḴTEḴSEN marsh in W̱SÁNEĆ territory (Saturna Island, British Columbia, Canada) has grown into an Earth Day tradition heard on 60 radio stations and via the web in over 50 countries.

One Local 107.3 FM is happy to participate in once again!

Artists Brady Marks and Mark Timmings invite you to fill your home, work, vehicle and leisure spaces with the resonant sounds of birds, frogs, insects and airplanes! Immerse yourself in the vitality of the 24-hour circadian rhythm of the wetland. The broadcast engages its audience in real time and stimulates a powerful re‑engagement with the living environment. As the world spins through turbulent times, “slow radio” offers a life-affirming respite to reflect upon a more lucid and caring future.

Broadcast starts at midnight and runs for a full 24 hours.

If this broadcast inspires you with the desire to make something similar you can reach out to our manager at manager@cfmh.ca to learn what resources we have to support your creativity!

  • 25 Years of Broadcasting

Today, January 12th, marks 25 years of broadcasting on the FM dial.
Local FM was granted a broadcasting license in 2000 and went on air for the first time in early 2001.

It’s business as usual today, but we couldn’t let the milestone pass without highlighting the day.

Thank you to anyone who has ever volunteered, listened or contributed in any way.

    Wetland Project

Join a growing Earth Day tradition. Tune in to the 9th annual, 24-hour Wetland Project slow radio broadcast.

Artists Brady Marks and Mark Timmings invite you to fill your home, work, vehicle and leisure spaces with the resonant sounds of birds, frogs, insects and airplanes! Immerse yourself in the vitality of the 24-hour circadian rhythm of the ṮEḴTEḴSEN marsh in unsurrendered W̱SÁNEĆ territory (Saturna Island, British Columbia). The broadcast engages its audience in real time and stimulates a powerful re-engagement with the living environment. At a time when the world is in great turmoil, slow radio offers us a life-affirming space to reflect on a more lucid and caring future.

This broadcast kicks off at midnight and will go for a full 24 hours.
We join other Canadian stations and more around the world in presenting this broadcast.

A Critical look at The Irving Oil Refinery & Spruce Lake Industrial Park Expansion

The Saint John Community Coalition is holding the latest workshop in their Community Conversation workshop series, called ‘Connections’ at Haven Music Hall.

Irving oil refinery’s approval to operate in Saint John is up for review this month. This is an opportunity to take a look at their record of pollution and offer critical feedback to the government of NB. Join local activist Gordon Dalzell in learning how the refinery effects the health of Saint Johners and take collective action through the review process.

They will also be discussing about how Lorneville residents are organizing to stop the Spruce Lake Industrial Park Expansion and how you can help them stop the conversion of marsh and forests to heavy industry.

Join your fellow Saint John community members at Haven Music Hall for workshops that are designed to teach actionable skills, build community solidarity, and empower collective action. Light refreshments will be provided and participants are encouraged to bring their laptops as they will be engaging with online platforms during this workshop.

Location: Haven Music Hall (201 Union Street, Saint John NB)
    Doors: 5:30pm
    Workshop: 6:00pm-7:30pm
    Open discussion: 7:30pm-8:00pm

During the FunDrive, pledges can be made over the phone during live programs(506-649-5925), in person, or via email to manager@cfmh.ca.
If no one is in the booth, consider emailing or leaving a message on the office phone.

    Pledges may be paid by:
    Cash
Cheque (or money order, made out to “Local 107.3FM”)

This year, we’re raising funds to replace the PC in our live studio. The PC in the booth is used to edit, record, play music, create show logs, do research, and more. It’s quite old at this point and in dire need of an upgrade. This will allow our hosts who use this PC to work faster and deal with fewer technical difficulties on their shows. A majority of our live hosts utilize the PC in some way.

As we’ve already met our goal we’re looking to upgrade things like our record players, headphones, and some other miscellaneous equipment.

    Incentives:
This year’s pledge incentives are hyper limited! Donate early to secure your chance.

A 10$ donation gets you a choice between:
    Fanny pack
    Coffee mug
A physical copy of Distortion: One of the zines from our archives
A physical copy of Live from Local FM.

For any extra information or questions, please reach out to manager@cfmh.ca

  • New LJI Journalist Announcement

Our recent search for a full-time journalist was successful!
The hiring of Iona Coe brings our staff to three.

Although a relative newcomer to Saint John, over the past couple of years Iona has taken great pleasure in very much making the city her home.

Hailing from the UK, Iona spent ten years working in the House of Commons, proofreading, writing, and researching, among other things. She also set cryptic crosswords, notably for the Independent newspaper, under the pseudonym, Commoner.

Her first job after arriving in New Brunswick was a freelance position writing for St. Stephen’s St Croix Courier, where they gained journalistic experience including reporting on the mysterious sport of Ice Hockey.

She has also written about concrete and casinos.

Iona’s position exists thanks to funding from the Community Radio Fund of Canada via their Local Journalism Initiative grant.

Funding from this grant has also expanded the duties and roles of our Programming Facilitator. Jai’s expanded hours will be split equally between his normal duties and his new role.

If there’s a story you think needs covered you can find Iona’s contact info here.
