  • Open Doors Day

In Ottawa there is a yearly event called Open Door Days.
It’s an opportunity for members of the public to enter offices and buildings they might not normally get the chance to explore.

This year’s World College Radio Day stations all around the world plan to take inspiration from this event.

On October 4th, we will be encouraging members from the campus and community to visit our space from 11 am to 4 pm.

A special part of this event will be the option for anyone who wishes to lend their voice to our airwaves and record a station ID.
I hope you’ll join us for a look inside our space!

  • New LJI Journalist Announcement

Our recent search for a full-time journalist was successful!
The hiring of Iona Coe brings our staff to three.

Although a relative newcomer to Saint John, over the past couple of years Iona has taken great pleasure in very much making the city her home.

Hailing from the UK, Iona spent ten years working in the House of Commons, proofreading, writing, and researching, among other things. She also set cryptic crosswords, notably for the Independent newspaper, under the pseudonym, Commoner.

Her first job after arriving in New Brunswick was a freelance position writing for St. Stephen’s St Croix Courier, where they gained journalistic experience including reporting on the mysterious sport of Ice Hockey.

She has also written about concrete and casinos.

Iona’s position exists thanks to funding from the Community Radio Fund of Canada via their Local Journalism Initiative grant.

Funding from this grant has also expanded the duties and roles of our Programming Facilitator. Jai’s expanded hours will be split equally between his normal duties and his new role.

If there’s a story you think needs covered you can find Iona’s contact info here.

  • Local FM is hiring an LJI Journalist!

We are looking for a full-time journalist to create local and original civic journalism.

    Description of the LJI program

Main point: It’s local and hyperlocal journalism.

The Local Journalism Initiative (LJI) program was launched by the Community Radio Fund of Canada and funded by the Government of Canada. The program focuses on diverse, local communities that may be underserved in the Canadian news landscape. The goal is to increase the production of community and civic news in those areas and to make that news more accessible across the country. We’re elevating original, local community news.

Applications will be accepted until end of day on August 23rd!

Thank you to everyone for your interest in the LJI program. Unfortunately, we can’t respond to all applicants. Only those candidates under consideration will be contacted.
