  • Earth Day 2026: April 22, 2026

    Wetland Project

Since its inauguration on Vancouver Co-op Radio in 2017, listening to the 24‑hour soundscape from the ṮEḴTEḴSEN marsh in W̱SÁNEĆ territory (Saturna Island, British Columbia, Canada) has grown into an Earth Day tradition heard on 60 radio stations and via the web in over 50 countries.

One Local 107.3 FM is happy to participate in once again!

Artists Brady Marks and Mark Timmings invite you to fill your home, work, vehicle and leisure spaces with the resonant sounds of birds, frogs, insects and airplanes! Immerse yourself in the vitality of the 24-hour circadian rhythm of the wetland. The broadcast engages its audience in real time and stimulates a powerful re‑engagement with the living environment. As the world spins through turbulent times, “slow radio” offers a life-affirming respite to reflect upon a more lucid and caring future.

Broadcast starts at midnight and runs for a full 24 hours.

If this broadcast inspires you with the desire to make something similar you can reach out to our manager at manager@cfmh.ca to learn what resources we have to support your creativity!

  • 25 Years of Broadcasting

Today, January 12th, marks 25 years of broadcasting on the FM dial.
Local FM was granted a broadcasting license in 2000 and went on air for the first time in early 2001.

It’s business as usual today, but we couldn’t let the milestone pass without highlighting the day.

Thank you to anyone who has ever volunteered, listened or contributed in any way.

  • Honouring the life of long time Local FM Programmer Michael McGillivray

News of Michael’s passing reached the staff here at the station this Friday Afternoon, July 11th.
The obituary prepared by Michael’s family is available here.

Michael started hosting his show around 2007.
I had met Michael many times before I took on the role of Station Manager.

However, as Station Manager, I was lucky enough to receive a call from Michael every week around the time he would host.

Michael’s passion for music and the station was evident in every interaction we had, whether they were short or long.

At a time like this, words can be hard to form.

    To keep it short:
Michael was an important part of the community here, and he will be missed.
Archives of Michael’s show will continue to air at 8 PM on Wednesday.

The family has asked that donations in Michael’s name be made to the station or to a local food bank.

Donations can currently can be made to the station via:
    E-transfers sent to manager@cfmh.ca

  • “We Are Children Of The Stars”: Saluting Local FM Programmer & Spoken Word Collective Member David Carr

Local FM Programmer David Carr exited this realm on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019. I feel tremendously grateful to have known him and to have aired many of his beautiful poems on 107.3fm in 2018 & 2019.

I originally met David through Local FM programmer Chris Wanamaker, one of our Spoken Word Collective’s first and most enthusiastic members. David & Chris collaborated on a limited series titled, “The David Carr Show” wherein David read his poetry aloud and Chris spearheaded conversations about the various themes and messages held within David’s body of work.

Additionally, David & Chris collaborated on a Christmas special with Spearos Lahanas for our annual “Christmas Eve Extravaganza” on December 24th, 2018. David also participated in our Community Poetry Slam in 2019.

Most notably, David contributed three pieces to our Spoken Word Collective’s project, “Experiences: A Local 107.3fm Soundscape Collection” [produced by Shawn Goff].

In the coming weeks, we’ll curate a memorial program in David’s honour. In the interim, please listen to the three soundscapes linked below. These recordings will be remembered as David’s final and most awe-inspiring contributions to Local FM.

    David Carr: Dangerous Greed

    David Carr: No More Minutes

    David Carr: Starchildren

    Sincerely,

Julia Eleanor Rogers, Local FM Station Manager & Program Director

“We are children of the universe. Know this: be proud, not prideful, for by oneself, we are nothing. As part of the whole, we are everything. We are nothing and, yet, we are everything. Look up at the stars, my children. You are looking at your home. For more than our petty minds, we are children of the stars, made from the same matter, returning again when we are done. We are all, every species, every creature that ever was, or will be: we are the starchildren.” – David Carr, 2019
